Tipping
A Quick Look at Tube Tipping
 |
One
of the steps taken in the fabrication of catheters, introducers,
dilators and other tubes put into the body is tube tipping. Tube tipping
is done by very carefully heat treating the end of a tube to the point
that it begins to soften. Our operators then conform this softened
plastic into your detailed dimensions.
|
|
Some
of FBK’s customers want us to only “take the edge off” by forming a
slight radius on the outside edge of the tube. Other customers specify
a more severe radius. Accordingly, we begin to close off the end of the
tube or decrease its inner diameter. Still others want FBK to totally
reconfigure the tube by thermoforming the end of the tube into a shape
that looks like the end of a sharpened pencil. Application engineering
by the customer determines the shape and geometry of the product we make
to their specification. |
